Walking Safely in Slippery Conditions

Walking in the winter can be treacherous! Here are some great tips for walking in icy conditions:

  1. Wear gloves so you don’t have to put your hands in your pockets.

  2. If you have to carry anything, use a backpack so you can keep your hands free.

  3. If possible, stay on designated walkways.

  4. Wear shoes or boots meant for traction.

And here is one of my favorite tips:

5. Walk like a penguin: point your feet out, extend your arms to your side, and take short steps.
